Tirupati: Bag with 3.61 kg gold stolen from train passenger

The incident occured when the train was travelling from Tirupati to Renigunta on Tuesday morning.

Tirupati: Gold worth Rs 50 to Rs 60 lakh was stolen from a Mumbai-based jeweller, while he was travelling on Haripriya Express from Mumbai to Tirupati on Tuesday.

According to the Government Railway Police officials, J.T. Raj Purohit, a jeweller from Mumbai was in a sleeper compartment, and was on his way from Mumbai to Kadapa. He was given an authorisation letter by a company titled J.P. Gold a Mumbai-based manufacturer and dealers of gold and silver ornaments.to carry 3617.026 grams of 18 carat gold ornaments.

According to Mr. Raj Purohit’s complaint to the police, while the train was moving towards Renigunta from Tirupati, he had gone to the toilet and found his bag missing when he returned to his berth. A case of theft has been registered and GRP CI P. Ashok Kumar and SI M.V. Anil Kumar further investigating the case.
