Mysuru: Repoll if nota exceeds winner's votes?

Asked by reporters about private companies coming forward to provide indelible ink for elections.

Mysuru: Election commissioners of several states and Union territories, who are meeting in Mysuru for their 27th national conference, will discuss among other things the possibility of holding a re-poll if the number of NOTA (none of the above) votes is greater than the regular votes secured by a winning candidate in an election.

Revealing this , State Election Commissioner of Madhya Pradesh , R Parasuram, who inaugurated the conference here on Tuesday, said other issues on the agenda included improving and strengthening of the local election system, e-voting, online nominations, and multi- post electronic voting machines or EVMs.

Noting that online nominations had already been used in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and e-voting had been allowed in a municipal corporation election in Gujarat, he observed that multi- post EVMs were being used in Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh. "The election commissioners of these states will share their experiences with these methods," he added

Asked by reporters about private companies coming forward to provide indelible ink for elections, Mr Parasuram said they were satisfied with the product of the public sector, Mysuru Paints and Varnish Ltd.
