Job offers for IIT Madras students rise by 30 per cent

As many as 20 start-ups made 78 offers so far.

Chennai: In a positive trend, job offers for IIT Madras students have gone up by 30 per cent during the first phase of placement season compared to last year.

Totally, 133 companies have made 680 offers to students from the top engineering institute at the end of day three. When combined with the pre-placement offers, the total number of offers increased to 816, a release from IIT Madras said.

The students also received 13 international offers in the first three days. The international offers include seven in the US and five in Singapore and one in Dubai.

“We have had a great start to this year’s placements. We hope the strong trend continues over the next four days as well,” said Professor Manu Santhanam, advisor, training and placements, IIT Madras.

The number of top recruiters in the first three days saw a 25 per cent increase as compared to the previous year, he added.

As many as 20 start-ups made 78 offers so far. Last year, 106 companies have made 526 offers at the end of day 3.

“Out of 680 offers, more than 90 were for data science or data analytics, indicating a strong growth in this sector,” the release said.

Micron Technology, Inc (26), Intel (26), Microsoft (25), Citibank (22), Qualcomm (21) and Flipkart (16) are some of the top recruiters in the current season.

The offers from IT companies witnessed a major rise as this sector accounted for 29 per cent of offers. The students received 37 per cent offers from Analytics / Consulting / Finance sector companies and 37 per cent offers received from Core and R and D companies.

IIT Madras said that other engineering job profiles are scheduled between December 4 and 8.

There is also a rise in the placements of post-graduate students as compared to the previous year. First three days recorded 374 job offers to PG students against 307 offers last year.
