Vijayawada: Chandranna malls from December 12
Vijayawada: Chandranna malls will be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on December 12, minister Prattipati Pulla Rao announced on Monday.The malls will sell foodstuff at a price that will be 20 per cent less than in the open market, Mr Rao said in a meeting of the civil supplies department. The Reliance Fortune Group will supply the stuff. He said the malls would also increase the income of ration dealers. The meeting was held to discuss the procedures followed in various states for PDS and technology they were adopting.
Mr Pulla Rao said the government had saved Rs 1,500 crore by using modern technology. He said the government was distributing quality rice and foodgrains to the poor through the PDS. He said 87 per cent of the goods had been supplied in November, adding that misuse has also been curtailed. Special chief secretary (civil supplies) B. Rajasekhar said 4-man teams would tour places to study distribution of items through the ration shops.
