Metro ride tough with no bus stops nearby

The RTC has started operating 90 buses from colonies and the IT corridor to Metro stations.

Hyderabad: Commuters are finding it difficult to reach Metro Rail stations due to the delay in setting up bus stops for the commuters, some of whom are forced to travel long distances autorickshaw or walk.

Mr M. Manikyam, a techie from Nagole, said the Metro station is located between Uppal and Nagole. “When I take a bus, the conductor says that there is no stop at the Metro station, and I have to buy a ticket to Uppal.,” he said. The RTC has started operating 90 buses from colonies and the IT corridor to Metro stations but the other regular buses are not allowed to stop at the stations.

Mr A. Purushotham Naik, RTC executive director, Greater Zone, said the corporation had sent a list of bus stops near the Metro stations and were awaiting approval. “We have directed RTC drivers to stop buses at the stations as per their convenience, as well as that of the commuters,” he said.

HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said the location of bus stops was being studied along with GHMC, traffic and RTC officials. “B-Zone is most important in the view of traffic and we don’t allow bus stops there. We have come up with proposed bus stops at all stations and priority will be given to RTC.”

Autorickshaw drivers are benefiting from the lack of buses and bus stops in and around Metro stations.
