DOST portal's glitches persist, exams delayed
HYDERABAD: The Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST) portal got off to a bad start in 2017 with over 4,000 undergraduate aspirants failing to secure admission through it, as a result of which spot admissions had to be conducted. The portal continues to cause trouble, with first-semester examination dates for B.A, B.Com, and B.Sc students being postponed for the third time, from November 23 to December 14.
Osmania University has released a notice saying that the theory examinations have been postponed due to discrepancies in the student data on DOST. The last date for the payment of fees has also been extended. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, the general secretary of the Telangana Degree College Association, says, “Initial hiccups in the admission process are proving to be costly during exam time. The names listed on the portal at the time of admission have gotten mixed up, which is leading to problems in the allocation of hall ticket numbers and causing a delay.” He adds that the data is being updated.
Professor M. Kumar, the Controller of Examinations of Osmania University, says, “The tentative date for the examination is December 14, as of now. Ideally, the exams should have ended in November itself. The delay is lengthening the semester. The third-semester examinations have also been postponed.”
Students are worried about the postponement of exams.
They say that the evaluation process should be hastened to compensate for the delay. Akash Vinu, a first-semester student of history, says, “We have heard of results being delayed and released long after the semester is over. Hopefully, that will not happen this time as we are already late. Even if the exams begin on December 14, they will only end by the end of the month.” Meanwhile, third-semester students have already started preparing for the next semester.
