CRS to inspect Mysuru-Bengaluru rail line
Bengaluru: The Commissioner of Rail Safety will inspect electrification of Bengaluru-Mysuru Railway line on December 5. Sanctioned in the 2007-2008 budget, the project that saw several delays and cost escalation is finally complete.
Statutory inspection and speed trial for authorising introduction of AC electric locomotives will take place on the newly electrified Yeliyur (Mandya) to Mysuru stretch. Once the electrified 39 km stretch between Yeliyur and Mysuru receives the green signal, it will cut down travel time by about 20 minutes, erasing the need to change an electric engine to a diesel one at the City Central Railway Station.
South Western Railway CPRO Vijaya said, “18 to 19 trains run every day between the two places and 24 pairs throughout the week. The Bengauru-Ramanagara electrification happened two years ago and the remaining stretch to Yeliyur has already received CRS approval.”
Krishna Prasad, a member of Karnataka Railway Vedike, said, "One of the main benefits is saving fuel and reducing pollution. The time saved is negligent and the speed of engine is also a beneficial factor. However, speed also depends on the track length. The train pick up will also be better."
Prasad said that the move will indirectly impact 2,000 passengers travelling in each train.
