C40 to give 1,000 air monitoring tools
BENGALURU: To improve the health of the city and its people, BBMP will sign an MoU with C40, which tries to address climate change and improve the health of people, cities and the planet. With the MoU, the civic body will get grants and 1,000 air quality monitoring equipment, which will be installed at various locations in the city. C40 is associated with over 90 cities across the world.
Mayor Sampath Raj and BBMP commissioner Manjunath Prasad will sign the MoU with C40 in New Delhi on Tuesday along with Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Mr Raj told Deccan Chronicle, “We were all taken aback looking at how polluted New Delhi was recently. Bengaluru isn't far from getting equally polluted, if precautionary measures are not taken."
He said, “The BBMP will be co-lead in C40's initiative and apart from 1,000 air monitoring equipment, we will also have monitoring cells with staff from the BBMP and KSPCB. .” Mayors under C40 are committed to taking bold climate action which will make the city more inclusive. “Under C40 network, we can create conversations with other cities and come out with a solution with resources, finance and technical support from the C40 network. Further, C40 facilitates connection among staff working across over 50 countries which enable us find a solution to best suit the city,” he said.
