Andhra Pradesh: Remote controls for motors now
Nellore: For the first time, agricultural motors which can be switched on and off from a remote location through mobile phones have been installed in Cherlopalli village in Manubolu mandal of SPSR, Nellore district. APSPDCL has taken the initiative to replace the old five horsepower motors with these new power saving motors in eight districts of the state on a trail basis.
Farmers can also keep a tab on the power consumption through their mobile phone besides operating the motor from remote locations. After inaugurating the motor during at Cherlopalli on Monday, Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said 9,857 motors having the latest technology have been sanctioned for Nellore district.
According to Mr Reddy, the technology has been provided by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Iowa University. The state government had decided to distribute 65,000 motors with a five horsepower capacity worth '45,000 each to farmers across the state. The farmer can switch on or switch off the motor from anywhere with the help of his mobile phone. The motor will automatically switch off if there is no groundwater to pump unlike conventional motors which burn or if there is no water.
The farmer will get a message alert if anybody attempts to steal the motor. Chandramohan Reddy’s son and Sarvepalli constituency coordinator Somireddy Rajagopal Reddy, APSPDCL Chief Engineer Nanda Kumar, Nellore division SE Vijayakumar and Gudur DE Anilkumar were present.
