No solatium from goverment yet to kin of dead farmers: MK Stalin
TIRUCHY: The DMK treasurer and Leader of the opposition in the Assembly, Mr. M K Stalin asked why the Tamil Nadu Government had not yet granted compensation or any form of relief to the deceased family members of more than 23 farmers who have committed suicide or died of cardiac arrest, across the state in recent weeks in the wake of crop failure.
In an informal chat with newsmen at Tiruchy on Sunday, Mr. Stalin said the Chief Minister, Ms .J Jayalalithaa, who is convalescing in a Chennai hospital, had in a reported statement condoled the death of 19 persons in a private explosives unit explosion near Thuraiyur on Thursday, besides granting cash relief to them and the injured persons.
However, in the same breath, why Ms. Jayalalithaa had not issued any such statement towards the farmers who have either committed suicide or died of cardiac arrest, due to crop failure, Stalin sought to know.
