Sabita Indra Reddy\'s Gunman Dies by Suicide

The incident occurred Manikantha Hotel, Srinagar Colony

Hyderabad: Education minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy’s escort officer, Armed Reserve sub-inspector Mohd Fazle Ali, 59, died by suicide shortly after he started his shift in Srinagar Colony in Hyderabad on Sunday morning. He was with his youngest daughter at that time.

Ali is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters. Around 45 years ago, Ali’s father Mohd Ibrahim, who was also with the police, had died by suicide in a similar manner.

DCP West Zone Joel Davis said that according to preliminary investigations, financial issues were behind the suicide. Ali had recently applied for a loan from a bank which had turned him down, Davis told Deccan Chronicle.

On Sunday morning, while leaving for work, Ali asked his youngest daughter Asiya Fathima to accompany him. He reported for duty at the minister’s residence and collected the service weapon from the official he was relieving.

At about 7.10 am, he went near an eatery where he told his daughter about his financial issues. He wrote out the contact numbers of his seniors on a piece of paper and gave it to her. As she was reading it, he walked a few steps away and died by suicide.

Ali, deputed to the Armed Reserve of the Rachakonda commissionerate, has been working on the escort team from August 2020.

Jubilee HIlls station house officer P. Raveendra Prasad said that Ali had spoken to the family of dying by suicide. Inquiries did not reveal that Ali had borrowed from online loan apps.

The area was cordoned off till the body was moved from the spot and the clues team collected samples and the eatery was allowed to open.

Ali’s elder brother Mohd Ali told Deccan Chronicle that the bank would give him a loan after he had cleared his previous borrowing. He was asked to visit the bank again on November 15.

He added that his brother was arranging money. In addition to the youngest daughter’s marriage, the family was also preparing for the elder daughter’s second marriage. The family urged the government to support the family, as they have lost their sole breadwinner. “His children are educated. We urge the government and the police department to provide employment to one of his children,” said Mohd Ali.

His two elder daughters are divorced. Their son Imran has started a small business, after returning from the Gulf. Fazle Ali had in the past worked as a security officer to minister V. Srinivas Goud and MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.
