Maheshwaram locals demand better health care facilities and parks

Hyderabad: Maheshwaram constituency located in the city outskirts, which houses Tata Sikorsky Aerospace Limited, Tata Consultancy Services and many recently developed colonies lacks a strengthened stormwater drain system that can withstand rains.

Local residents, in addition to seeking a solution to the urban flooding issue, also sought better health care facilities and more recreational facilities like parks.

However, many were happy that road infrastructure has improved in the area and cited the road connecting Manda malla with Adibatla.

A field visit to the constituency revealed that Osman Nagar is one the worst hit localities during monsoon.

While there are several localities in and around the city that get inundated with every spell of rain, in Osman Nagar it is essentially due to the absence of a good stormwater drain system that water is not getting drained out for days together.

“This July, our colony was looking like a small pond. During monsoon we relocate ourselves,” said Mohammed Sohail, a resident of Osman Nagar.

Meanwhile, residents of Metro Colony in Jalpally municipality also expressed anguish at urban flooding.

With DRDO, DLRL, Advanced Systems Laboratory and other defence establishments located in Chandrayangutta, the constituency that shares its border with Maheshwaram , several new colonies and gated communities have mushroomed in Maheshwaram constituency .

Many employees working in the ministry of defence have made Badangpet and its neighboring localities their home. Green Rich Avenue, Nakshatra and Sai Balaji Homes are some gated communities that consist of villas and independent houses where several central government employees reside. Many from these colonies demanded more clinics and recreational places.

"The authorities should scale up health infrastructure in the constituency and develop parks," said a DLRL employee.
