Chargesheet filed against Duniya Vijay in assault case

The actor had in May allegedly manhandled police personnel when they went to arrest his friend Sundar P Gowda, a filmmaker.

Bengaluru: C.K. Acchukattu police have filed a chargesheet against sandalwood actor Duniya Vijay on Saturday for obstructing them from carrying out an arrest.

The actor had in May allegedly manhandled police personnel when they went to arrest his friend Sundar P Gowda, a filmmaker.

The police had registered an FIR against Vijay, who also escaped and later obtained bail. The incident took place on May 30, when Tavarakere police officials went to arrest Sundar at his house in CK Achhukattu, after the Ramanagara court issued a non-bailable warrant.

The filmmaker was one of the accused in a case where two actors, Uday and Anil, drowned during a film shooting at Thippagondanahalli Reservoir in November 2016.

During the shoot, Uday and Anil, along with Vijay, had jumped from a helicopter into the reservoir from a height of 100 feet. However only Vijay was wearing the safety gear and managed to survive, while the other two drowned.

Sunder was booked under death due to negligence and arrested. He later secured bail and then failed to appear before the court during the trail. The court then issued a non-bailable warrant. When the police arrived at Sundar’s house, Vijay, who was present there, allegedly manhandled them and delayed them from carrying out their duty. Sundar then escaped from the house.

Tavarekere police later filed a complaint with the jurisdictional police, who filed an FIR and investigated the case before filing a chargesheet before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Saturday.

The 65-page police chargesheet records statements from nine witnesses. The police have also recorded Duniya Vijay’s statement, where he reportedly confessed to the crime.
