Bengaluru: The Whitefield division police went into tizzy when they opened a blind box, meant for people willing to share information with police regarding drug peddling, at Forum Neighbourhood Mall in Whitefield on Saturday and found money in it.
According to DCP Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner of Police Whitefield Division, people mistook the blind box for donation box and with festival season on, they were probably keen to do some charity.
The police team checks every Saturday if any information regarding drug abuse has been shared. They have installed blind boxes at over 10 places in the city, including colleges and malls.
“On Saturday when the team went to check the boxes hoping to obtain discreet information regarding drugs, the inspector found cash in the box. He immediately improvised he messaged on the box and pasted on it which read Blind box for Drug Awareness,” Ahad said.
“People mistook the blind box as donation box to fund charity activities for blind people and dropped money in it. Keeping in mind the noble intention of people, the police added some more money to the amount collected and donated it to a blind school,” he added.
Ahad along with Whitefield inspector donated the amount to Divine Light Trust For Blind School.
The senior police officer said the police is making all out efforts to fight the menace of drug peddling and create awareness among people.
