Mining scam: Decision on SIT probe soon, says CM Siddaramaiah
Mangaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said the state government would consider the possibility of a probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into illegal mining after officers of the CBI failed to uncover evidence in the mega-buck scam.
“Illegal mining was of a magnitude in excess of Rs 25,000 crore. The CBI says there is no evidence, so we are examining if we need to set up the SIT. We need to discuss, examine it thoroughly and take a decision,” he told the media during his visit to Mangaluru to inaugurate the Indian Karate Championship on Saturday.
Taking pot shots at leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party about ongoing ‘Parivarthana Yatra’, the Chief Minister said that it would prove a flop show and therefore party leaders would repent. “They (BJP) need Parivarthane (change). Their’s is a flop show. They have realized that people are not with them. Their rally had empty chairs during the inaugural in Bengaluru. They claimed to have a gathering three lakh but there were about 20,000 people,” the Chief Minister said.
Though Mr Siddaramaiah ruled out a similar effort by the ruling party to woo voters, he announced that he would address public rallies in every Assembly constituency. The Chief Minister won a big round of applause from the audience with his symbolic Karate bout with Mangaluru Mayor Kavitha Sanil at the inaugural of the championship.
