Three months have passed and the park gets about 500 visitors a day.

Hyderabad: The Deccan Park, which was hurriedly opened in July due to political compulsions, will become a children-friendly park only from next year. The park, according to the official sources, was opened on a short notice. K T Rama Rao, IT minister, inaugurated the park, and said that it will serve as a lung space for the nearby residents.

Three months have passed and the park gets about 500 visitors a day. The number swells on weekends. But park does not have any playing equipment. “Unfortunately, it is yet to be developed. Children play around in the garden and leave the place,” admitted an employee of the park.

Several fountains and swimming pools are not working. The toy train too, has rusted tracks. “The department of museums had objected to the toy train, citing heritage rules. We are trying to resolve the issue with them. Similarly, the proposal for playing equipment had been prepared and we hope to introduce them soon,” said Ms M Lalitha, assistant director, Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA).

QQSUDA is also exploring a tie-up with the Agha Khan Trust which is keen to develop the park. “We had brought it to the notice of the authorities during the inauguration. The officials assured to introduce more facilities at the park and two inspections were also carried out,” said Mr Kausar Mohiuddin, Karwan MLA.
