HM Revanna assures safer BMTC for women
Bengaluru: The 94th bus day was celebrated at Kempe Gowda Bus Station on Saturday morning with special emphasis on women’s safety in public places.
In his address Transport Minister H.M. Revanna said the BMTC was working towards becoming more people friendly and implemented many programmes to improve women’s safety.
As there are large number of working women in Bengaluru we have reserved 16 seats for them. Under the Nirbhaya fund, we are trying to implement different schemes for women empowerment, the minister added.
He said that on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, we are planning special programmes for women such as training, special driving licence, relaxation centres at bus stand for women and also helpline.
The Bus Day was jointly organized with B-PAC. Sharadamma (56), a regular commuter, said “It is far better than what it was 10 years ago, but for aged people it is difficult to climb the steps in the bus.” BMTC president M. Nagaraj Yadav said that they are planning to build hospitals and transit clinics at TTMC’s for workers and passengers.
