By 2031, the state population will be 5.57 crore and in this rural population will be 2.78 crore and urban population 2.79 crore.

Hyderabad: In AP state, rural population is declining and urban population is doubling. During 2001-2011, the addition to the rural population had been five lakh whereas urban population had nearly doubled.

According to the state government’s estimation, by the end of the next decade, urban population will equal the rural population and lay great pressure on infrastructure.

As per the government’s calculations, in the next one decade the growth rate of rural population will be a minus-70 per cent while the growth rate of urban population will be 266 per cent.

By 2031, the state population will be 5.57 crore and in this rural population will be 2.78 crore and urban population 2.79 crore. According to the 2011 Census, the total population of the AP region was 4.94 crore and in this rural population was 3.48 crore and urban population 1.46 crore.

The officials said providing improved and enhanced infrastructure facilities in urban areas to match the increasing population will prove to be a huge challenge for the government.
