ESI Hospital row: Vaccine given to child seized by Medchal police
Hyderabad: A day after the death of a two-month-old baby due to alleged vaccine reaction, the Medchal police seized the vaccines that were given to the child. They have also taken samples of the medicine from the primary health centre where the stocks were kept before they were distributed to the sub centres for use. The seized materials were sent for forensic analysis.
Police said that the vaccines administered to the baby, P. Hemapriya, were manufactured in November 2015 and would have expired in December 2017. They were supplied to the health sub centre II from the primary health centre in Srirangavaram village in Medchal district.
The vaccine samples collected from the health centre belonged to the same batch supplied to the health centre. Out of the 36 babies who were administered the vaccine, only Hemapriya died, while the others were unaffected, said police sources.
“Though the parents claim that the child died due to the vaccine, we are waiting for the autopsy report to establish the exact cause of death,” said the police.
Cops also seized records from the PHC for inquiry. Two-month-old Hemapriya, who was administered the vaccine on Wednesday, died after bleeding from the nose early on Thursday morning. Police has registered a case for causing death due to negligence and is investigating.
