Poll code case: Karnataka High Court stays order against Bache Gowda

Namma Bengaluru Foundation in its PIL has questioned BBMP's inaction and lack of infrastructure in the city.

Bengaluru: In a relief to former minister Bache Gowda, the High Court has stayed the proceedings initiated him before a lower court in connection with a case over violation of election code of conduct during 2014 general elections.

He had approached the court seeking quashing the complaint registered against him with the Chikkaballapur Town Police Station on charges of distributing money during general election time. The complaint also alleged that Bache Gowda used around 50 cars for the election campaign, whereas he was permitted to use only 20, along with charges of parking over 200 cars on the sides of the main road.

He was booked under Section 123 of the Representation of People Act, 1951 - Section 123 - corrupt practices and Section 171E in The Indian Penal Code (IPC) - punishment for bribery.

Palike seeks time: The BBMP has sought two months time to file the status report about pothole filling, barricading storm water drains and removing encroachment along the storm water drains. It has sought time to file a detailed report to the PIL challenging the lack of infrastructure in the city. Namma Bengaluru Foundation in its PIL has questioned BBMP’s inaction and lack of infrastructure in the city. The case stands adjourned.
