November 11 to be celebrated as National Education Day
CHENNAI: Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has asked all the education institutions to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, freedom fighter and the first education minister of India as the National Education Day. Both University Grants Commission (UGC) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have asked the institutions to organise seminars, symposia, essay writing, elocution competitions, workshops and rallies with banners, cards and slogans of the importance of education and nation’s commitment to all aspects of education.
In its circular, Central Board of Secondary Education asked the schools to introspect their ongoing programme such as Community Outreach, Entrepreneurial Projects, Vocational Skills, Life Skills, Inclusive Education on the National Education Day. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as the India’s first Minister of Education from 1947 to 1958. He emphasised on free and compulsory education for all under 14 and stressed on adult illiteracy.
