Hyderabad: First biomethanation plant set up in state

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rammohan said that several such plants will be installed under the GHMC jurisdiction.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set up first ever biomethanation plant in the city at the Chandanagar garbage transfer station at an estimated cost of Rs 24.76 lakh. City mayor, Bonthu Rammohan, along with zonal commissioner, D. Hari Chandana, inaugurated it at Deepthisri Nagar transfer station in Chandanagar circle.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rammohan said that several such plants will be installed under the GHMC jurisdiction. He instructed bulk generators and gated communities to install such decentralised compost and gas plants in their vicinity as they would reduce transportation costs for the GHMC and the same funds may utilised for developmental activities.

Ms Harichanda said that Deepthisri Nagar has been chosen for the installation of a plant as there is a constant inflow of segregated waste and dedicated 20-30 metric tonnes of wet waste from gated communities and hotels in Serilingampally zone. The thought of converting this wet waste at Deepthisri Nagar will cut short the transportation and processing charges.
