Desilting scam: CM, mayor orders probe

Providing good roads and drains is the fundamental duty of the BBMP, but it has failed miserably: N. R. Ramesh

BENGALURU: A day after a mega desilting scam was unearthed by BJP city spokesperson N.R. Ramesh, both the chief minister and Mayor Gowtham Kumar ordered a detailed probe to punish the erring officers.

CM B.S. Yediyurappa ordered an inquiry, while the Mayor ordered a probe by the Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner (TVCC).

Mr Ramesh told Deccan Chronicle that BBMP engineers, including chief engineer of Storm Water Drain (SWD) B.S. Prahlad, have misused tax-payers' money by creating fabricated and inflated bills.

If the drains were desilted why should Bengaluru be flooding, putting lives of thousands of people at risk and inconveniencing lakhs of people, he asked.

A recce during or soon after the rain shows how bad the situation of drains and roads is and marooned roads affect the traffic flow, he said.

“Providing good roads and drains is the fundamental duty of the BBMP, but it has failed miserably.

It’s a victory for my fight against corruption and bringing justice to citizens,” he said.
