TN CM hints at action against Karunas for seeking removal of Speaker

On Wednesday, Karunas had sent a letter to the Assembly Secretary seeking action' against Mr Dhanapal.

Chennai: Actor-legislator S. Karunas, who had sought action against TN Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal, is likely to face trouble.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday indicated that this lawmaker, representing Tiruvadanai Assembly constituency, elected on AIADMK’s Two Leaves symbol, might face action for seeking the removal of the Assembly Speaker.

“You know pretty well what will happen if a no-confidence motion is brought against the Speaker after winning (in 2016 Assembly elections) on Two Leaves symbol... you in media know what the law says,” Mr Palaniswami said when reporters sought for his response to Karunas’ notice against the Speaker.

On Wednesday, Karunas had sent a letter to the Assembly Secretary seeking ‘action’ against Mr Dhanapal for allegedly acting in a biased and partisan manner.

Although Mr Palaniswami, who is AIADMK’s joint co-convener, did not elaborate, there were reports that Karunas’ move could be seen as a ‘revolt’ against the ruling party and hence he can attract disciplinary action.

Karunas, who heads a caste outfit Mukkalathor Puli Padai, was recently arrested for his abusive remarks on the CM, Deputy Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam and the police. He is out on bail.
