TM Thomas Isaac not game for tax reduction
He blamed the Centre for frequent hikes instead.
Alappuzha: Finance minister T. M. Thomas Isaac has rejected the Union government's demand to reduce the state taxes on petroleum products. He blamed the Centre for frequent hikes instead.
"Now they have reduced only Rs 1.50. If they cut the hiked tax completely, then the state government is also ready to do that," he told reporters here.
"We will look into the directions of the Union government in this regard."
He alleged that the current move was for political benefits in the upcoming state polls. "The Centre’s argument that they had no control over prices is false. During Karnataka polls, the oil marketing companies did not hike the price. Now the Centre has also asked them to absorb a deduction of Rs 1 per litre,‘’ he said.
