SUV accident: Former MP's grandson gets conditional bail

The incident happened on September 27, when Vishnu's SUV hit a Maruti Omni van at South End Circle in Jayanagar, leaving six injured.

Bengaluru: The First APMM Court on Wednesday granted bail to Geetha Vishnu, the grandson of liquor baron and former MP late D.K. Adikesavulu, whose SUV was involved in an accident and later the police found marijuana in it.

The incident happened on September 27, when Vishnu’s SUV hit a Maruti Omni van at South End Circle in Jayanagar, leaving six injured.

The court granted conditional bail to Vishnu upon furnishing two sureties and bond of Rs 25,000 and asked him to appear before the investigating officers whenever required.

Though the prosecutor sought Vishnu’s police custody stating the accused was involved in multiple cases, the defence lawyer argued that Vishnu was booked under the bailable sections of the CrPC and that his client had no knowledge about the presence of marijuana in his car.

After the accident Vishnu was admitted to Mallya hospital as he had sustained minor injuries during the accident and later due to a scuffle with passersby.

However on Friday Vishnu escaped from the hospital, while in police custody, and surrendered to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Tuesday evening.

There are also reports that the CCB had arrested Vishnu after someone called up the police from a coin box phone and informed them about Vishnu’s location.

Meanwhile, the CCB officials have summoned Vishnu on Thursday at 10.30 am for investigation.
