STPI to create 36,000 jobs in Andhra Pradesh

The Central government will offer incentives to establish 48,300 seats.

Visakhapatnam: Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has so far allocated 3,050 seats for operating 16 BPO/ITES units across Andhra Pradesh under India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS).

Once they are fully working in three shifts, these units will create direct employment to more than 9,000 persons and indirect employment to around 27,000 individuals in the state, STPI joint director M.P. Dubey told Deccan Chronicle.

“Under IBPS, till now 23 companies have submitted their bids in four rounds of bidding. The bidders will start their operations in the next six months at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Bheemavaram. The fifth round bidding process will commence on October 16 and the last date for submission of bids is October 27,” he informed.

He added, “Companies like Maple Software and Revenue Cycle have successfully completed the bidding process to receive 200 seats and 500 seats respectively in the previous rounds. Overall, there are 145 companies operating BPO and KPO units in the state including MNCs such as HSBC, Tech Mahindra and Wipro.”

The Central government will offer incentives to establish 48,300 seats for BPO/ITES operations in tier II and tier III cities across the country with an outlay of Rs 493 crore for the next phase of IT/ITES led growth. This scheme has potential to create employment opportunities of around 1.5 lakh direct jobs considering three shift operations.

Initially, Andhra Pradesh has 2,200 seats to allocate to BPO/ITES companies under IBPS. Another 850 seats have been added to allocate 3,050 seats. Now, the total number has been increased to 4,400 seats. The additional 1,350 seats are available for the next round of bidding process.

The government will provide incentives up to Rs 1 lakh per seat for the expenditure incurred on BPO/ITES operations towards capital expenditure, Mr Dubey added.
