Patriotism fills KVs' Kerala youth fest

The national youth festival is aimed at sharing best practices and experiences at the national level.

Kochi: Imbibing the spirit of patriotism, winners from 40 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) came together to revel in competitions in cultural events the other day in Kochi in the state youth festival of KVs.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan organized the state event at KV Kadavanthra which was billed as ‘social science exhibition-cum-national integration camp” to promote national Integration and encourage appreciation for Indian art and culture among students and to bring out their talents.

It coincides with the KVS Rashtriya Ekta Shivir and celebrates the unity in diversity of the nation and strengthens the bond between people of different states. A national youth festival of KV students is set to be held in New Delhi later this month in which winners of the state youth festival will participate and vie for national honours.

The national youth festival is aimed at sharing best practices and experiences at the national level.

What preceded the state youth festival was school level and four cluster level youth festivals. The national integration camp aims at comprehensive learning through engagement, exploration and empowerment. The students from Class 6 to 12 are the participants in the youth fest.

Ernakulam region denotes Kerala state and the 25 regions of the country are given each state as theme in the youth festival. ‘Himachal Pradesh’ is the theme that has come Ernakulam region’s way this year.

The group dance contest was on the folk dance of the allotted state of Himachal Pradesh, group song contest on folk song of Himachal, quiz on traditional Indian medicine and debate on demonetization. Contests in elocution, geet/ghazal solo singing, solo classical dance, on the spot painting and skit on social issues were also held at the state youth fest.

The participants representing the region at the national level will be taken for a student exchange programme to Himachal Pradesh for visits to places of cultural and historical Interest and workshops and other cultural exchange activities.
