Hyderabad: Scolded at hostel, boy ends life

Victim was depressed as he was abused by the hostel management when asked for food during vacation.

Hyderabad: The decomposing body of an 18-year-old engineering student was found hanging in a private hostel in the Kukatpally Housing Board (KPHB) area on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as K. Ramesh. The police said that he had hanged himself to death four days ago. The incident only came to light on Wednesday because the rest of the hostel inmates and the staff were out on vacation until then.

According to the police, Ramesh who hailed from Nalgonda district had been studying engineering at a college in the city and residing at a private hostel in KPHB.

On Wednesday morning, one of the domestic help noticed a foul smell emanating from a closed room and informed the management. The cops were also alerted. They rushed to the hostel and broke open the door to find a decomposing body hanging from the ceiling.

KPHB Inspector Ch Kushalkar said that the room was shared by four boys, but the other three had gone home for vacation, as had the hostel and kitchen staff.

Ramesh had allegedly asked the management for food and had been told that the kitchen staff was on leave. Ramesh’s father Chennakeshavulu said that Ramesh had become depressed because the hostel management had abused him when he had asked them for food during the vacation.

Ramesh may have committed suicide as a result of feeling insulted after his interaction with the hostel management. “The reason for the suicide is not known. We are trying to verify the details and probe various angles,” the Inspector said.

A case of suspicious death was registered under Section 174 of the CrPC. Ramesh’s body was handed over to his family after the conduction of an autopsy.
