Hyderabad rains: Assessment of roads to find out damages

This is being done independently of the regular pothole filling exercise.

Hyderabad: An assessment of roads in the city is being carried out to summarise the total damage caused by the rains. This is being done independently of the regular pothole filling exercise.

The engineering wing of the GHMC, which is responsible for the maintenance of roads, has been asked to take up repairs only after October 10 as more rain has been forecast.

Speaking to this newspaper, GHMC chief Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said, “The road network in the city covers around 9,000 km; an assessment operation has been ordered to identify the most damaged roads and the routes that need maintenance. The assessment will take 15 days, after which tenders will be invited for road repairs and laying of new roads if needed. The total damage is yet to be quantified.”

He added that only the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board had been permitted to dig roads for the laying of a water pipeline in the peripheral belt.
