APSRTC aims to rake in Rs 100 crore through courier
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has raked in a revenue of Rs 3.30 crore in the first month, offering courier and parcel services in a full fledged manner on its own from September.
The new services have pushed up revenue of the government run corporation, said APSRTC executive director R. Sasidhar.
The APSRTC did not renew the contract with ANL parcel service which ended in August. Through ANL parcel service, the corporation used to get an approximate sum of Rs 9 -Rs 10 crore per annum.
Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Mr Sasidhar said, “We netted revenue of Rs 3.30 crore in just one month through parcel and courier services. Easily it will touch Rs 40 crore per annum. So to raise the bar, we have set a target of Rs 100 crore per year.”
The customers would largely benefit from the parcel and courier services as APSRTC has been offering the services for 15 per cent lesser charge in comparison with private players in the market, he claimed.
Through advertising, shops and other 35 streams, APSRTC has been earning nearly Rs 120 crore, he noted.
“APSRTC and state health department are mulling over ferrying medicines to various poi-nts across the state. Besides, the public transport corporation would take the task of disbursing 21 lakh mosquito nets, which gets imported to Vizag from Malaysia through shipping,” he said.
“As the state government distributes mosquito nets to villages in the state, our buses would carry and drop th-em at the points,” he said.
Mr Sasidhar also said during Dasara festival season they operated 400 buses carrying 20,000 passengers. “In just four to five days of Dasara vacation, APSRTC has clocked a revenue of Rs 1.25 crore,” he said.
