AP ignores Board order, Telangana too generates power
Hyderabad: The AP government has decided to ignore the Krishna River Management Board orders directing it to stop release of water to the Pothireddypadu head regulator from Srisailam dam that supplies water to a majority of the Rayalaseema districts.
On Wednesday, AP released about 11,000 cusecs (close to 1 tmc ft) of water to the Pothireddypadu head regulator, besides releases to Handri-Neeva lift scheme at Malyala in the foreshore of Srisailam dam.
“I haven’t received any instructions from my government to stop water release, hence releases are continuing,” said Srisailam dam chief engineer C. Narayana Reddy.
Sources said that faced with growing demand for water in Rayalaseema from Pothireddypadu, the AP government cannot ignore the calls. The sources also said in the last three-member KRMB meeting, AP had made its stand clear that it may have to release more water to Pothireddypadu over and above the allocation of 5 tmc ft made by the Board. It had even got it version recorded in the minutes of the meeting.
“It’s quite surprising that whenever Telangana officials make a hue and cry, KRMB bows to their demands and issues ‘stop release’ orders. This is not proper; we will continue our releases and will account everything in the next full-fledged Board meeting,” a senior irrigation department official said.
AP has complained against TS Genco for restarting generation from Left Bank power house without any orders from the KRMB.
