Siddaramaiah government not for honest officers: BJP

BJP leaders said several of those arrested were pregnant women, elderly women and men who never indulged in violence.

Belagavi: Highlighting the manner in which the state government did injustice to several senior officers including DySP late M.K. Ganapati, Anupama Shenoy and Shikha, the BJP state executive accused the Siddaramaiah government of creating a hostile atmosphere for officers and said it was not conducive for honest bureaucrats.

Objecting to the reinduction of K.J. George into the cabinet, the state executive called the CID inquiry launched against him as a mere ‘formality’ to free him of serious charges levelled by DySP Ganapati. Filing of a B-report by the investigating officers in George's case was a conspiracy against democracy, the leaders alleged.

Before passing a resolution on launching an agitation against the government's ‘unfair conduct’ against senior officers, the meeting said instead of probing the Ganapati case to ensure justice to his family, the government was keen on protecting George in the case. Several officers in the state suffered atrocities only because they were honest.

Pointing to the failure to maintain law and order in the state, the BJP called the arrest of 187 innocent people during the violence at Navalgund, Arekarhatti, Yamanur and Alagwadi over Mahadayi issue as an act to deny people their right to protest. The BJP leaders said several of those arrested were pregnant women, elderly women and men who never indulged in violence.
