Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at CM’s camp office in Begumpet on Tuesday after BJP MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar was denied an appointment with the CM to take up the issue of Uppal Bhagat farmers who lost lands for the Metro Rail 12 years ago but did not get the promised developed plots towards compensation so far.
A decade after they lost lands to the Outer Ring Road and Metro Rail, the landowners continue to wait for successive governments to keep their promise. The governments had promised to provide them developed plots as compensation, but this remains only on paper.
The plight of ORR land oustees is even worse as the government has allotted plots recently to some bowing to protests but without minimum facilities, rendering them useless.
Malkajgiri MP Ch. Malla Reddy led a delegation of about 500 farmers to the CM's camp office on Tuesday. Mr Prabhakar also sought CM's appointment as the Uppal Bhagat lands come under his constituency.
Mr Prabhakar said the CMO confirmed an appointment on Monday itself but he was denied entry into the camp office when he turned up on Tuesday. He said TRS and Congress leaders from Uppal were given appointment while the same was denied to the MLA representing the constituency.
However, after the land oustees met him, the CM promised to allot developed plots by Dasara and directed MAUD minister K.T. Rama Rao and HMDA officials to immediately take steps in this regard.
“The CM’s security staff told me that I was not given appointment. They deliberately cancelled my appointment on the directions of the CM and TRS leaders because I will demand 100 per cent plots to farmers who lost lands. They took farmers inside without me and forced them to agree to 60 per cent developed plots to farmers and remaining 40 per cent to HMDA,” Mr Prabhakar said.
The MLA staged a sit-in in front of the camp office to protest against cancellation of the appointment. He was evicted by the CM’s security personnel.
