KAKINADA: District collector H. Arunkumar said people who want to go abroad, particularly to Gulf countries, looking for a job should register at revenue division offices and make a thorough check about their agencies and employers before embarking on the journey.
Mr Arunkumar, along with superintendent of police Mr M. Ravi Prakash, convened a meeting on Tuesday to review cases related to duped Gulf victims.
In this review meeting, Mr Ravi Prakash said a minimum of 10 to 15 cases in each police station, mainly Razole, Malkipuram, Amalapuram and other police stations in the Konaseema area, were reported regarding poor working conditions in those countries, cheating with false promises by the agents, health problems and others. He said there were complaints in police stations by the victims that there was no promised employment or facilities for them in the countries.
The victims also complained that the agents were bringing people in the name of tourist visa, which does not permit employment or residing there for a long period. He said the system adopted by the Maharashtra government for protecting such victims would be studied.
“A separate section would be set up in registration forms for Gulf-goers for jobs, and they should register their names along with their employer’s details.
“It would help them and also the administration for any future assistance,” he said.
He advised the people not believe the agents blindly. He said there were only six authorised agents in the district and people should not approach other fake agents for visas or other purposes.
