Muslim body files FIR against Hajela
New Delhi: An organisation of indigenous Muslims here on Wednesday said that they have filed an FIR against the coordinator of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC), accusing him of producing a “fraudulent” document after a massive expenditure.
Informing that Asom Garia-Maria Yuba Chhatra Parishad has lodged the FIR at Guwahati’s Latasil police station on Tuesday evening, spokesperson of the organisation told reporters, “The final NRC is a bhekubhaona (farce) and a waste of time and resources. It is full of anomalies with three members of a family in and two members out, armed forces personnel excluded, one son in and another out despite using the same legacy data. This shouldn’t have happened at least to the original inhabitants of the state.”
The spokesperson claimed that the complaint against Mr Hajela has been filed so that the government can probe the entire process of updating the NRC.
Mr Hajela an IAS officer and IIT graduate was at the centre of ongoing massive exercise of updating the NRC since 2013 but soon after the publication of the NRC, he is at the receiving end of all as on Wednesday the All Assam Bengali Yuba-Chhatra Parishad has also demanded his arrest and removal as the state NRC coordinator for producing a “faulty” document that omits many “genuine Indians” and includes “foreigners”.
