Green expert to seek G Kishan Reddy’s help
Hyderabad: Environmentalist Prof. K. Purushotham Reddy on Wednesday said that the “state government and the Central government have totally ignored the concern of the wildlife sanctuary and lives of the people are in danger. Tribals, locals and environmentalists have been agitating for over a month but no solution was found to the matter and understand that what could be the consequences of the rush for the uranium mining.”
Mr Purushotham also told that environmentalists would meet minister of state for home affairs G. Kishan Reddy and Telangana new Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to handover a memorandum requesting to intervene and stop the mining in Telangana.
The entre move for giving preliminary clearance for uranium mining near Achampet and a few other areas in Telangana state is being questioned by opposition the Congress and Left parties.
People are coming forward in support of the tribals agitation to stop area.
Local resident Ramesh said that “Ongoing uranium mining will destroy the ecological system of the area and soon will contaminate the Nagarju-nasagar and Srisailam reservoirs also which is the source of drinking water to Hyderabad.
A panel under the Union ministry of forests had recommended giving “in-principle” permission to mine uranium in the Amrabad tiger reserve and on May 22 the Union forest ministry’s forest advisory committee had made the recommendation for permission.
A joint action committee against uranium mining in Nallamala forests have also given an ultimatum that the committee is in no mood to stop the agitation against the mining rather it may grow if the demand to stop the mining is not considered as soon as possible.
