Bengaluru: Rubbishing Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s claim that the people had voted in favour of the coalition government in the recent urban local body (ULB) elections, state BJP chief B.S. Yeddyurappa said that the poll only showed that the JD(S) was losing its identity in the state.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party won 929 of the 2662 ULB seats, the Congress won 982 and the JD(S) only 375, he noted. Also, the BJP had secured 34.89 per cent of the votes, the Congress, 36.88 per cent and the JD(S) merely 14.08 per cent even lesser than the independents, who together polled 14.12 per cent, he observed .
“And going by recent elections, both the Congress and JD(S) are losing ground in the urban sector. Their percentage of votes has, in fact, decreased when compared to their performance in the 2013 urban local body elections,” he said.
Continuing his attack on the coalition government, the BJP leader claimed people were fed up with the way it was handling the state’s affairs and had decided to teach both the Congress and JD(S) a fitting lesson in the coming Lok Sabha elections by electing the BJP from 25 constituencies.
Also, taking strong objection to Mr Kumaraswamy’s response that he was ready to publish any colour of paper he wanted to his demand for a white paper on the state’s financial health, he said he was ridiculing a democratic tradition. “The white paper has sanctity in a parliamentary democracy and the Chief Minister has disrespected it,” he contended.
