Submit forms for Ganesha idols via single window system: TN government

Recording the submission, Justice R. Mahadevan made it clear that illegal tapping of electricity will not be tolerated in any case.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government is ready to accept applications seeking permission for installation and procession of Ganesha idols for Ganesh Chaturthi through single-window system.

The advocate general, Vijay Narayan, appearing on behalf of the government, before the Madras high court has informed that in cities the jurisdictional assistant commissioner of police will receive the applications and jurisdictional deputy superintendent of police in rural areas.

The AG made the submission, before Justice R. Mahadevan during hearing of a batch of petitions filed by various organisations seeking the state to relax conditions imposed for installation and procession of idols of Lord Ganesha.

AG has informed that the government is ready to relax condition to get temporary power connection from the electricity department and organisers can take power supply from a neighbouring house or a shop provided they get a written consent of such person.

Recording the submission, Justice R. Mahadevan made it clear that illegal tapping of electricity will not be tolerated in any case. The judge then said that he will pass appropriate orders incorporating all the submissions on August 5.

In a PIL, a writ petitioner stated that the authorities issued new guidelines/rules on August 9 last for temporary installation and worship of Vinayaka idols in public places. Hence, the organisers unable to follow the guideline since they were required to obtain no objection certificates from local bodies, highways, local police station, electricity board and pollution control board. These cannot be met within short span of time.
