The college has three departments of BSc zoology, BA Malayalam and BCom with 16 teaching staff and 195 students.

Thiruvananthapuram: The students of Government Arts and Science College, Elanthoor, the lone government college in Pathanamthitta district, have cleaned their classmates’ houses which faced the flood fury.

The cleaning mission was held at Melukara, Edappa-voor, Cherukol and Vazhak-kunnam, Mr Jiju Varghese Jacob, head of English department, told Deccan Chronicle.

Fifteen students of the college actively participated in the drive during the Onam vacation and shortlisted four houses for immediate support. It took two to three days to clean a house. The college, which was started on July 14, 2014, has many students from the flood-hit areas, many of them from BPL categories. As they were unable to get outside help, the teachers and students took up the challenge, said Mr Jacob.
