Massive' campaign to raise funds for relief

Mr. Sudhakaran said that more than Rs 30,000 crore would be needed to rebuild the state.

Alappuzha: A massive campaign to raise funds for the chief minister's distress relief fund will be organised in the district from September 10 to 15.

Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, who addressed a meeting of MPs and MLAs at the collectorate here on Tuesday, urged all the MLAs in the district to convene a meeting at the constituency level by September 10 to chalk out a strategy to raise funds.

The programmes would be held in Cherthala, Alappuzha and Ambalapuzha As-sembly constituencies on September 12, Aroor and Haripad on 13th, Chengannur, Ma-velikara and Kayam-kulam on 14th and Kuttanad on 15th.

Mr. Sudhakaran said that more than Rs 30,000 crore would be needed to rebuild the state. Taxes secretary P. Venugopal has been appointed special officer to coordinate the campaign in the district.

Civil Supplies Minis-ter P. Thilothaman, MPs K.C. Venugopal and Kodikunnil Sure-sh, MLAs R. Rajesh, U. Pratibha, A.M. Ariff, district panchayat president G. Venugop-al, collector S. Suhas, sub-collector V.R. Krishna Teja and the tax-es secretary also spoke.
