Callers flood health control room for aid
Thiruvananthapuram: The control rooms set up by the health department for the prevention and control of infectious diseases in the post-flood phase have received a tremendous response.
Of the calls received so far nearly 26 per cent pertained to people offering to work voluntarily for chlorination (16.18 pc) and cleanliness drive (13 pc).
The health department also launched an online facility for hospitals and clinics to report cases of infectious diseases on http://bit.ly/cdreporting.
State and district control rooms are functioning for countering infectious diseases. Also, they take immediate decisions as per the requirement on the ground.
The information regarding infectious diseases is being passed on to the state control room.
However, doctors say if the cases of infectious diseases are reported in real time the control room could take immediate follow-up measures. The health minister asked the private hospitals also to use the control room.
The entire coordination of camps across the state is carried out from here. While 9.47-per cent calls are for disease prevention and immunisation, 6.18 pc is for waste disposal.
Mental health, bleaching powder, availability of workers and associated sectors accounted for 27.9 per cent calls.
The information received is conveyed to the respective authorities for follow-up action.
A 24-hour control room is monitoring the media including audio, TV channels, print, WhatsApp and Facebook.
A team comprising two medical officers, eight E-health officials, and six volunteers monitor them. Each district has set up a nodal officer to coordinate with the control room.
