TN CM urges govt staff to withdraw strike call

Sengottayan & R. B. Udayakumar said that the talks failed as the state top brass remained non committal on the seventh pay commission recommendations.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edapaddi K. Palaniswami on Monday urged members of Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations-Government Employees Organisations to withdraw their strike notice and ensure that they do not participate in any act that would affect the public.

In a statement, the CM clarified that he has instructed senior ministers to hold discussions with members of various government organisations and brief them about the measures being taken by the state to address the welfare issues related to government employees. A committee led by former IAS officer T. S. Sridhar has been formed and a recommendations from the committee are expected within a month, based on the committee's report necessary action will be taken, the chief minister assured in his statement.

However, Jacto-GEO (Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations-Government Employees Organisations) in a statement said that it would go ahead with the strike as per schedule on Thursday and termed the discussions with the state a failure. Jacto-GEO convenors who took part in a three hour discussions at the state secretariat with state ministers D. Jayakumar, K. A. Sengottayan and R. B. Udayakumar said that the talks failed as the state top brass remained non committal on the seventh pay commission recommendations.

"A high level committee of Jacto GEO has decided to strike from Thursday and the members have been instructed to take all steps to ensure that the strike is successful", said a statement issued to media by Jacto GEO convenors P. Ilangovan and J. Ganesan.
