Siddaramaiah lays foundation stone for 4 new STPs

After commissioning of all the treatment plants, the total capacity will increase to 1,573 MLD by 2020 in the City, he said.

BENGALURU: With an intention to clean up valleys and lakes in the city, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of four sewage treatment plants (STPs) of 440 MLD capacity at a cost of Rs 1,202 crore at Vrishabhavathi Valley, Koramangala-Challaghatta Valley, Hebbal and Doddabele.

The Bengaluru Water Supply & Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is supplying 1,400 Million Liters per Day (MLD) of water from river Cauvery to the city. Around 400 MLD of water is drawn from both public and private borewells in the city. Every day, the city uses 1,800 MLD, of which around 80 % is being converted into waste water.

The BWSSB with its 14 sewage treatment plants is already treating 721 MLD of sewage water every day. Sewage treatment plants of 5 MLD capacity at Chikkabanavara, 20 Million Liters per Day capacity at Nagasandra and 40 MLD capacity at Raja Kaluve was recently inaugurated by Mr Siddaramaiah.

“At present, 850 Million Liters per Day capacity of wastewater is being treated and works are on full swing to complete the remaining 211 MLD waste water treatment plant by this yearend. With this, a total of 1,062 MLD of waste water can be treated by this yearend,” a BWSSB engineer said.

In addition to the above plants, four new STPs with a capacity of 440 Million Liters per Day have been awarded for design and construction at a cost of Rs 1,202 crore under the Mega City Revolving Fund (MCRF).

After commissioning of all the treatment plants, the total capacity will increase to 1,573 MLD by 2020 in the City, he said.

Speaking at the event, Mr Siddaramaiah listed out the achievements of Congress-led state government and said that his political opponents who can digest the success of his government have started a movement against him.
