5,000 Ganesh idols to be immersed in Hussainsagar

About 2.000 idols from the south zone are expected to arrive at the Hussainsagar.

Hyderabad: Officials say that a whopping 5,000 Ganesh idols are expected to be immersed in the Hussainsagar on Tuesday. The idols will make their way to Tank Bund and NTR Marg, where 51 cranes have been set up to carry out the immersions. Over 10 lakh people are expected to join the immersion processions.

Among the many elaborate facilities that have been prepared for the occasion are the four cranes that have been designated to carry out immersions in the north zone, where nearly 700 idols are expected to arrive.

“We respect the sentiments of the devotees and have arranged for a separate route,” said DCP B. Sumathi of the north Zone Hyderabad police.

Another seven cranes have been set up in the north zone to lift the idols and place them on the immersion machines. The expected influx of Ganesh idols from the west is considerably low, as over 75 per cent of the 9,000 geo-tagged idols have already been immersed. Officials say that about 2,000 idols will make their way to the lake from the Cyberabad end of the city.

About 2.000 idols from the south zone are expected to arrive at the Hussainsagar. The idols will come from areas such as Pahadishareef, Rajendranagar, and Balapur. Over 22 cranes have been deployed to lift the idols. “We want the tail-end of the processions to cross Nayapul by 7 pm,” said the DCP of the south zone.

The central zone police will add eight cranes to facilitate the immersions on Tuesday. “We are hoping that the experiment of giving the north zone a separate route works out and helps make the immersions faster,” said the DCP of the Central Zone.
