27,265 cops in Hyderabad to oversee nimajjanam procession

About 15 lakh people are expected to take part in the immersion.

Hyderabad: A total of 27,265 police personnel have been posted in the city for Tuesday’s nimajjanam procession. As many as 94,486 idols were installed in the state this year, more than 25,000 from the city. Of these, 11,572 have been immersed.

Director-general of police Anurag Sharma and city police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy reviewed the security arrangements. “The immersion of Khairatabad Ganesh will be completed first followed by the other idols,” the DGP said.

Mr Mahender Reddy said the immersion would be live-streamed from 15,000 CCTV cameras and 800 video cameras and monitored round the clock from the Command Control Centre at the commissioner’s office and another unit set up on the Tank Bund. About 15 lakh people are expected to take part in the immersion.

Mr Mahender Reddy said 310 hypersensitive and 605 sensitive areas had been identified in the city. He said 16,000 personnel would stand guard at the immersion sites in the city. Six Greyhounds and three Octopus units were being kept at stand-to. SHE teams have been deployed to ensure safety of women.
