Karnataka: Congress All Set for Gruha Jyoti Scheme Launch in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi: The Karnataka government is gearing up for a grand launching ceremony of one of its prominent election promises, the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme, in Kalaburagi on Saturday.

During the assembly election, the Congress has promised to implement five guarantees- 'Gruha Jyothi,' 'Gruha Lakshmi,' 'Shakti,' 'Anna Bhagya,' and 'Yuva Nidhi.'

The 'Gruha Jyoti' scheme, which will provide free electricity to domestic users up to 200 units, will be launched at Kalaburagi, the home turf of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge.
Preparations are in full swing, with Priyank Kharge personally overseeing the arrangements.

"In the last elections, the Congress party crafted its manifesto based on the demands and aspirations of the people across the state. Five major guarantees were announced, with the aim of providing financial stability. The 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme will be officially launched in Kalaburagi on Saturday," said Priyank Kharge during a press conference held at the Deputy Commissioner's office.

As many as 1,41,23,240 beneficiaries have registered for the 'Grihaj Jothi' scheme as of July 25.

"'Gruha Lakshmi' and 'Gruha Jyothi' are nearing implementation. 'Shakti' and 'Annabhagya' have already been successfully executed. The 'Yuva Nidhi' will be implemented after the current academic year. We are committed to fulfilling all the promises made. This has certainly made the BJP and JD(S) uncomfortable," he added.

AICC president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Energy Minister KJ Geroge, and other dignitaries will also be in attendance during the launching ceremony.

During the event, 10 persons will be provided with a symbolic zero electricity bill. Subsequently, the district ministers will launch the schemes in their respective districts.

On queries about the potential financial implications on other schemes due to these guarantees, Priyank Kharge reassured that adequate funds have already been allocated for essential programmes, and no major schemes will suffer financially due to these projects.

Regarding outstanding dues from various government departments to power companies, potentially hindering the guarantee scheme's smooth implementation, the minister assured that the government would recover dues in a phased manner and explore alternative revenue sources to successfully implement the guarantee schemes.
