VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will perform a mass housewarming ceremony for 5 lakh houses under YSRC government’s flagship Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu programme in the last week of August at Samarlakota Urban in Kakinada district.

Similar ceremonies will be held simultaneously in all 26 districts at the same muhurtham which is likely to be on Nija Sravana Masam.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said that Rs 15,810 crore would be spent this year on the housing programme and refuted allegations of the Opposition Telugu Desam regarding the quality of construction. Apart from providing immovable property to 31 lakh families, the government was also building houses for the beneficiaries, he pointed out. Two fans, two tubelights, four bulbs and one tank will also be provided. The dream of poor people to live in their own house will be fulfilled shortly,” Jagan Mohan Reddy said.

According to the housing officials, 4,71,602 out of 5 lakh houses (94 per cent) had been completed in the first phase and the rest would be completed by the second week of August.

Ajay Jain, special chief secretary, housing, said that Jagan Mohan Reddy’s main concept was to enable poor families to create their own property and had distributed nearly 30 lakh house pattas on the name of women head of family.

Jain stated that 2,298 houses were constructed in Samarlakota Urban in Kakinada district where the CM will inaugurate the scheme. He explained that it is decided to perform housewarming ceremonies at all sites where more than 500 houses were completed. Public representatives and officials would participate in the event.
