Indian Medical Association calls complete boycott on August 8

The withdrawal will affect out-patient and elective services, while doctors will attend to emergency services.

Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has given a call to its members for a complete withdrawal of medical services from both government and private sector hospitals on August 8 to protest certain provisions of the National Medical Commission Bill that was passed by Parliament recently. The withdrawal will affect out-patient and elective services, while doctors will attend to emergency services.

The Indian Medical Association is against the bridge course proposed in the NMC Bill which will give about 3.5 lakh non-medical workers the right to practice medicine.

The IMA says this provision in Section 32 will open the gates to quackery. There is also disquite over the regulation of private medical college fee.

The National Medical Commission Bill also proposes a new exam for doctors as well as restrict representation to state governments in the governing council.
