Probe POCSO cases effectively: DG&IGP
Bengaluru: Expressing concern over increasing number of sexual offences against children, DG & IGP Neelamani N. Raju advised her men to make the investigation in cases registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act more effectively and ensure punishment to the guilty.
Addressing senior police officers at a workshop 'Strengthening the Implementation of POCSO Act-2012' here on Saturday, Raju asked the police officers investigating POCSO cases to be careful while dealing with both accused and the victims.
Raju stressed on the investigation aspect and advised the police officers to avoid lapses in the cases registered under POCSO and file proper chargesheets which could end in convictions, without much delay.
She told the officers to record the victim's statement and provide equal importance to the statements of the doctors who treat the victim and make sure the victim does not succumb to fear of the perpetrator, as in most of the cases the accused would be known to victim and the victim may be in contact with the accused even after the crime.
The police chief also instructed the officers not to delay the investigation at any cost and complete it in a time-bound manner to ensure that no delay is caused to help the culprits.
